Advantages of Turnstiles for Any Building

Writer's picture: Joshua MarkJoshua Mark

Turnstile gates are installed as a form of physical security barrier to control access in commercial buildings or venues where large numbers of visitors come every day.

Security turnstiles like waist-height turnstiles incorporate a device fixed to the ground with attached rotating arms that is like a physical barrier designed to prevent unauthorized people from entering a space. The arms in a turnstile entry system are designed to rotate or remain fixed, depending on the type of turnstile barrier gate.

When an authorized user or paying customer shows a valid credential or ticket to a turnstile gate with a card reader system, the arms of the pedestrian turnstile rotate to permit one person through the barrier. After entry, the turnstile gate again gets locked until the next authorized person presents credentials.

Access turnstiles play an important role as a component of building security and visitor management. With turnstile security gates it is possible to control access within a particular location of a building not covered by other forms of security, as well as they can prevent theft and intrusion. Office turnstiles are generally installed to control access for:

  • Lobbies and reception areas

  • Amenities such as on-site gyms or cafeterias

  • Elevators at the lobby level

  • Event spaces or large conference rooms

Turnstile gates are installed to allow only authorized users or visitors to give them access to restricted areas. They prevent unauthorized access as they provide a physical barrier to entry and mitigate tailgating. The turnstile door hardware is like a visible deterrent to intruders.
